JYP unveils new girl group miss A

JYP unveils new girl group miss A

JYP Entertainment, the team behind the making of the Wonder Girls is launching new group.

The new group is "miss A" and will be managed under JYP Entertainment's sub-label, AQ Entertainment.

The quartet has already made a start on its career in China as commercial models and is now ready to meet local fans, according to the agency.

Comprised of four members (Fei, Jia, Suzy and Min) the group is expected to add more competition to the girl group frenzy in the music industry here. Min, who had trained for more than seven years under JYP, was the last member to join the group.

Widely known to fans unofficially as JYP Sisters since they started out as a 5-member group in training last year, the group has gone through several changes, most notably the exit of Hye Lim who joined the Wonder Girls, while two other members also left.

"We are looking forward to miss A's activities, especially because they were created and trained by the makers of Rain, the Wonder Girls, 2AM and 2PM. With `A-class' talents, the unit will hopefully grow as a group that can represent Korea, like the senior groups", AQ Entertainment said through a press release.

"We hope to bring more creative ideas and experimental attempts through the band and we hope everyone will tune into the agency and also the new band," it added.

The girls made their first official appearance at an opening event for Tory Burch's first store on Wednesday, Seoul.

Second Annual Asian MBA Leadership Conf & Career Expo

The Second Annual Asian MBA Leadership Conference and Career Expo is to be held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City from August 26th to the 28th with the theme, “Connect, Engage, Inspire.” This year’s Conference will be especially important, as it will announce the launch of the National Association of Asian MBAs (NAAMBA), a non-profit organization created to promote Asian American presence in the corporate landscape.

The three day event will be jam-packed with panel discussions and workshops for career acquisition and development, led by prominent CEOs and career coaches. Attendees will also have the chance to network with thousands of professionals and senior level executives from Fortune 500 corporations such as Aetna, Gilead, IBM, McDonald, PepsiCo, Prudential, Target; and government agencies, such as the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Department of Labor, among others. The expected number of participation is double that of the successful inaugural event that drew in 120 sponsoring companies and 2,000 attendees.

The Career Expo offers recruitment opportunities to experienced business professionals as well as to MBAs. “The primary focus of our Leadership Conference is to bring together corporate recruiters, MBA job candidates and experienced business professionals to embrace the career potential that Asian Americans provide to the workforce,” commented Jino Ahn, the Founder and President of Asian Diversity Inc., the organization spearheading the event.

This year’s Asian MBA Leadership Conference features the Global Diversity Forum, which includes the Jobs in Asia Pavilion that helps job seekers find opportunities, not only in the U.S., but in Asia, as well as the Global Executive and Global Human Capital Summits that invite executives from around the world to network with each other and to recruit American educated talents.

PETA is peeved at Wie

PETA Calls On Michelle Wie to Stick Up for 'Birdies'

"While you're making birdies on the golf course, please consider speaking up for the birds who are scalded to death for McNuggets," opens PETA's letter to pro golfer and McDonald's spokesperson Michelle Wie.

PETA sent the letter to Wie this morning asking her to use her unique position to urge the fast-food giant to adopt a less cruel slaughter method for the millions of chickens who are killed for its restaurants. In the letter, PETA points out that the alternative method spares chickens from suffering broken bones and being scalded to death and is already being used by some of McDonald's European suppliers. PETA's request comes two days before the Ladies Professional Golf Association Championship in which Wie is scheduled to participate.

"Michelle has one of the sweetest strokes in golf, but when it comes to her decision to partner with McDonald's, she's landed in the rough," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "We hope that she can help eliminate McDonald's cruel slaughter methods and be a champion not only on the golf course but also for chickens."

McDonald's American suppliers are under fire for using an archaic killing method in which birds often suffer from broken wings and broken legs, have their throats cut while they are still conscious, and are scalded to death in defeathering tanks. PETA--along with members of McDonald's own animal welfare advisory panel--has urged the company to switch to a modern method of slaughter and eliminate the worst abuses that birds suffer.

For more information, please visit PETA's Web site McCruelty.com.

PETA's letter to Michelle Wie follows.
June 22, 2010

Michelle Wie
Dear Michelle,
While you're making birdies on the golf course, please consider speaking up for the birds who are scalded to death for McNuggets. Your sponsor, McDonald's, still allows its U.S. suppliers to cut chickens' throats while they are conscious and even to scald birds to death in defeathering tanks. Will you use your unique position with the company to urge it to adopt the less cruel chicken-slaughter technology that's already in use in Europe?

As you can see at McCruelty.com, we've been pushing McDonald's to phase in the purchase of chicken from suppliers that use the less cruel slaughter method that is already used by McDonald's European operations. This method renders chickens unconscious while they are still in their transport crates, sparing birds the pain of live shackling and mutilation. As the leading purchaser of chicken in the U.S., McDonald's has the ability--and the market power--to make this method the industry standard for chicken slaughter, yet the company refuses to require its suppliers to make this common-sense switch.

A letter from you would surely resonate with McDonald's executives, and we'd be happy to draft it. Thanks for considering this--you could make a huge difference. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Michelle Cho
Special Projects Manager

Padma ‘lives and dies’ by daughter Krishna

Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi’s baby daughter Krishna was the missing ingredient in her life and, “everything is better with her around”.

When asked by Popeater about her feelings for her four-month old baby, Padma says, “I don’t even know how to answer that question because it’s such a primal feeling. It’s so deep and intense.”

What’s the best thing about being a mom? “Everything,” she says. “Everything is better with her around. Anything from the beginning of the day till the end.”

The foodie is now gearing up for the latest season of the cooking competition, set in Washington DC, in which Michelle Obama is rumored to be guest-judging.

Padma talks breast-feeding: “I don’t like to pump, I’d rather just nurse. Sometimes I have to, but I’m not into the pumping. It feels very bovine.”

As an eligible single woman is Padma, 39, looking for a man? “Right now I’m excited about making my daughter happy. Honestly, I live and die by the tiniest gestures and expressions on her face,” she says.

“I don’t really have any attention span for anything else than her. Well, I do for my work, but someone was asking me this the other day, if my perspective about work had shifted, and it has.

“It’s not that I’m not still interested in being good at my work and that I’m not ambitious, it’s just for different reasons. Now, I want to do it so she’ll be proud of me.”

We understand you love your daughter, but are you dating David Spade or what?
