Chinese New Year Banquet February 20 in Stamford, CT

Organization of Chinese Americans, Fairfield County chapter is sponsoring the evening. President Jason Liu of Greenwich explained, “Kunqu (pronounced kwin chu) is one of the oldest and most refined styles of traditional Chinese theatre performed today.” “It is a synthesis of drama, opera, ballet, poetry recital, and musical recital, which also draws on earlier forms of Chinese theatrical performances such as mime, farce, acrobatics, ballad recital, and medley, some of which go back to the third century B.C. or even earlier” adds Pauline Ning Brody of New Canaan who is VP of Public Relations. Mr. Yuqing Wang will perform “Dance of the Money God”. Ms. Shirley Tou is VP of Finance-Sales and Marketing at Pitney Bowes in Stamford and a resident of Norwalk. She has been a long-time student of various classical Chinese art forms.
Friends and neighbors will greet each other with Gung Shi Fa Chai, Happy New Year as they gather to celebrate the most important Chinese holiday. The children of the Chinese Language School of Fairfield County will kick off with a Dragon Dance. A traditional 10-course Chinese New Year banquet will be catered by Jasmine Restaurant of Westport. Raffles and dancing round out the evening of fun and fellowship.
