Alice Koskas of The Lounge Spa

Last week I had the opportunity to meet Asian entrepreneur, Alice Koskas. Alice is the founder and owner of The Lounge Spa in Los Angeles, CA. In 2005, Koskas opened the spa with over 20 years of experience in the beauty industry.
Koskas’ calling, literally, was skin deep. For years she suffered from acne and wanted to learn more about skin care and became an esthetician. By utilizing her new-found knowledge, she vowed to help others who suffered from acne. For over 17 years, Koskas worked for some of the most highly respected companies in the skin care industry.
Treating all kinds of Asian Skin

The U.S. Census Bureau predicts that the Asian-American population will total 40 million people by 2050. While as a whole this group is characterized by very dark hair and dark eyes, there is much diversity in Asian skin tones – from very light, pale skin to light or dark brown skin. One common thread is the pigmentation issues that Asian Americans often face as after-effects of other dermatologic problems that can be as troublesome as the original condition itself.
Jinju Beauty for Asian faces

Jinju Choi is a licensed esthetician, make-up artist and semi-permanent make-up artist in New York. She has been working in the beauty field for over 10 years having worked as an esthetician at prestigious venues such as Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spas and Oasis Day Spa. Jinju was recently featured in WAG Magazine June, 2009 as a highly recommended esthetician in Westchester County.
Five Makeup and Beauty Tips

When I decided to become an actor, I drove my beat-up Honda Civic from Texas to California in the 105-degree heat of July. If you saw photos from that trip (which you never will, thank God), you'd see me with huge false eyelashes, way too much eyeliner, frizzy pouffed hair (well, I did just drive from Dallas), cream blush, Lee press-on nails and an eye shadow color reminiscent of "The World of Suzy Wong."
Purty. Awful.
Since then, trial and error (and error) as I've prepared for thousands of auditions has taught me how to dismiss a lot of the makeup monkey business.
Spring is here! Treat your Asian skin

Spring is here! With what seemed like the longest winter ever (or is that just me getting older?), we finally get the chance to whip out our shorts, sandals (dare I say bikini’s or is that me clinging to my youth?) and shades. So, what about our skin? It has been through the bitter cold and chaffing wind, the hot hot showers we know we aren’t supposed to take but do anyway because it’s sooo cold we must…So, because we all know our springs tend to be short these days, we’ve got precious little time to get our skin spring ready!
Sunny of JK Models

I first met Sunny at the JK Models launch party in May of 2009. A stunning statuesque young woman, I couldn’t take my eyes off her. She had ‘model’ written all over her. When I finally had the opportunity to go up and speak to Sunny, of course one of my first questions was “Are you with an agency?” To which she replied “Not yet, but I’d like to be with yours!” Sunny has impressed the many clients she has worked with not only with her outer beauty, but most importantly, her inner beauty.
Lucullen's fashion designer Joyce Huang

Designer Joyce Huang has created pieces for Lucullen that are designed to elegantly take women through the demands of their workday and into their plans for the evening afterwards. This time, her creations exhibit influences from the Mod and Rocker styles of ‘60s British youth culture, updated and made accessible to professional women of any age.
Fashion Designer Gemma Kahng has staying power!

What is the first thing that you think of when you hear of New York? Lots of people would say that it would be fashion. Yes, New York is all about fashion. As most people think about fashion when they talk about New York, I’ve been dreaming about meeting people who work in the fashion industry when I decided to intern at Asiance in New York. One day, I attended an event called, “Fashion Matters” and met several famous Asian-American designers work in New York. Out of the 6 designers, I was totally intrigued by Gemma Kahng’s work and her opinion about fashion.
