Check out my new blogspace, FeministAsianDad.com!

Yes, this is the last one.

Let me begin by thanking all of you who have read my writing on AsianceMagazine.com over the last three-plus years! I hope you've enjoyed your time here. I've certainly enjoyed the opportunities to share with you things connected to raising my Asian American daughters.

My Day At The Republican National Convention (Part 2)

American enough for the modern GOP?

American enough for the modern GOP?

As I said in part one, most folks who meet me these days think of me as a liberal or progressive. But it used to be the opposite.

It was an Asian invasion of the Republican kind.

My Day At The Republican National Convention (Part 1)

Yes, I look different now. So?

Yes, I look different now. So?

These days, most folks think of me as a liberal or progressive. But I have not always been that way.

It was mid-August 1992, and the weather in Houston was unusually mild. The highs for the week were expected to be in the 70s instead of the typical upper 90s (which felt more like triple digits when you added in the Gulf Coast’s notorious humidity). Many a visitor in town probably said a quick prayer of thanks for the nicer weather, praising God that they weren’t melting while shuttling from their air-conditioned hotel to the air-conditioned Astrodome and back.

The Night Sky Speaks

After going to out to dinner with some friends, I looked up at the night sky, and there it was: symbols of two of the world's great faiths shining next to each other. Though Muslims and Christians have their differences, what they have in common far surpasses what they do not. It is a lesson I work hard to teach my daughters.

Some Of Baylor's Leaders Don't Get It. Maybe They'll Get This.

Came at a price.

Came at a price.

Baylor is a Baptist school, and I’m a licensed Baptist minister, so I’d like to offer the Baylor Board of Regents a short, unsolicited devotional here. You see, the regents are, according to multiple reports, slated to take a big vote Monday night related to the sexual assaults and cover-ups that have wracked the school’s football program. The board will reportedly decide tonight whether to reduce hugely successful head coach Art Briles’ penalty from a suspension “with intent to terminate” to simply a one-year suspension.

*TW* CNN's Ashleigh Banfield Reads Rape Survivor's Impact Statement - On The Air

The tide is turning. The struggle against sexual violence in our society has, I believe, gained a momentum that cannot be stopped. A powerful moment in that struggle took place on the Monday, June 6 edition of CNN's Legal View with Ashleigh Banfield. Here's what happened:

This Convo About Race And Schools Was Brought To You By You

It's hard to talk race and schools at 8 a.m.! (Liz, Alex, me)

It's hard to talk race and schools at 8 a.m.! (Liz, Alex, me)

Thank you! Thank you so much! I really appreciate all of you who've read my columns and engaged with me on the #RaisingAsianAmericanDaughters blog the last three years.

A college prof of mine once remarked to our education methods class, “Without them, there is no you.” She was speaking of the centrality of students in the teaching process, but the saying applies here:

The Armor Of Light

Many movies bring tears to my eyes. But no film has ever made me utterly and completely lose it - until now.
